By the 21st century, people came up with many ways to admire the land from an unusual angle. One of the most popular is parachute jump. Do you also want to challenge fear and experience the euphoria of flying? Great, we’ll help you in this.
Skydive Empuriabrava’s history began in 1985 with the opening of a small school on the edge of the Costa Brava run by a handful of enthusiasts for all things airborne, adrenalin pumping and aeronautical. Nowadays, the skydiving centre has its own airfield and fleet, training various world champions and some of the top skydiving teams across the different disciplines. The natural surroundings are no less impressive. Known as the Venice of Spain, Empuriabrava is surrounded by canals. On one side you have the Gulf of Roses, renowned among windsurfers, while on the other lies Cap de Creus, with its ancient lighthouse and rocky coves. But you’ll have plenty of time to take in the views once you get up there! Before the dive, you will meet your instructor who will jump with you and provide you with some basic instructions that are easy to remember. You’ll then take to the skies in a small plane, diving from a height of some 4,000 metres. As it’s a tandem jump, your instructor will take care of all the manoeuvres, also ensuring you have a safe and smooth landing. Your parachute will not of course open immediately, but after a full minute of freefall, when the velocity drops to 200 kilometres per hour. At an altitude of 1,500 metres, the instructor will pull the ring, opening the parachute and reducing the velocity to 20 kilometres per hour. There’s quite simply no feeling like it!
